1. Who we are
Petite Notes is a small, independently-built iPhone app. The developer is Marcel Schmidt. You can reach us at hello@petitenotes.xyz.
2. The data we collect
We do not track you across other companies' apps or websites, and we do not sell your data. We do collect the data needed to run Petite Notes and deliver the notes you choose to send.
Depending on how you use the app, this may include:
- Account details — when you sign in with Apple, we receive your Apple-provided user identifier, a name if you choose to share it, and either your real email address or Apple's private relay address. We never see your Apple ID password.
- Your notes and attachments — the text you send, plus any photos, audio recordings, files, or other attachments you choose to include.
- Optional location data — only when you tap the location pin and choose to attach your current location to a note.
- Recipient addresses — if you choose to send notes to other people, we store those email addresses so we can deliver future notes to the same recipients.
- Support and waitlist details — if you use our website forms, we receive the name, email address, subject, and message you submit, or the email address you use to join the waitlist.
3. How we use this data
- To create and manage your account.
- To store, sync, and deliver the notes you choose to send.
- To send scheduled notes and notifications you request.
- To respond to support requests, beta feedback, and account questions.
- To prevent abuse, troubleshoot service issues, and keep the app reliable.
4. What stays on your device
- Drafts and local preferences — settings like your chosen theme, notification preferences, and the "compose on launch" toggle are stored on your device.
- Crash & hang reports — the app uses Apple's
MetricKitframework. MetricKit payloads are handled by Apple and iOS. We only receive diagnostic information if you have enabled sharing analytics with developers in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements, or if you send us details directly in a support request.
5. Permissions we ask for, and why
The first time each of these is needed, iOS will show a permission prompt. We only request what we need, when we need it.
- Camera — to capture a photo to attach to a note. Declined means you can still attach photos from your library.
- Photo Library (read) — to attach an existing photo to a note.
- Photo Library (write) — to save captured photos back to your library if you ask us to.
- Microphone — to record a voice memo to attach to a note.
- Location (while using) — to attach your current location to a note when you tap the location pin.
- Notifications — to send you notes you've scheduled or notes others have sent you.
You can revoke any of these at any time in iOS Settings → Petite Notes.
6. Server endpoints we use
The app talks to https://petitenotes.xyz/api for:
- Storing notes you send.
- Delivering notes to recipient email addresses you configure.
- Verifying your Sign in with Apple identity token.
Requests are made over HTTPS. We do not log IP addresses beyond what's needed to operate the service and respond to abuse.
7. Apple's App Privacy labels
Our App Store privacy answers should match this policy. Petite Notes does not use data for tracking, and does not use third-party advertising. Data that may be linked to your account can include contact information, identifiers, user content, optional location data, diagnostics you choose to share, and support information, depending on which features you use.
8. Service providers and sharing
We do not sell your data and we do not share it for advertising. We may use trusted infrastructure providers to host the app, store data, send emails, deliver notifications, process support messages, or protect the service from abuse. These providers are only allowed to process data for those purposes.
We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect the security of the service, or to respond to valid legal requests.
9. TestFlight beta testing
If you install Petite Notes through TestFlight, Apple may provide us with beta testing information such as your invitation status, install status, crash reports, feedback you submit through TestFlight, and device or OS information associated with that feedback. Apple's handling of TestFlight data is governed by Apple's own terms and privacy policy.
10. Retention
We keep account data, notes, attachments, and recipient addresses for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the service. Support messages and waitlist submissions are kept only as long as needed to respond, manage the beta, or maintain reasonable business records.
If you delete your account or ask us to delete it, we will delete or de-identify your account data, notes, attachments, and recipients within 30 days, unless we need to keep limited information for legal, security, or abuse-prevention reasons.
11. Security
We use HTTPS in transit and take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your data. No internet service can be guaranteed to be perfectly secure, but we keep the amount of data we collect intentionally small and limit access to what is needed to operate Petite Notes.
12. Children
Petite Notes is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has signed up, contact us and we'll delete the account.
13. Your rights & how to leave
- See what we have — sign in and open the Apple ID Data screen from the app's Settings tab. It shows everything Apple shared with us about your account.
- Delete your account — email hello@petitenotes.xyz from the address you signed up with. We will delete your notes and account within 30 days.
- Export your notes — full data export is on the v1.1 roadmap. In the meantime, contact us and we'll send you a JSON archive of everything we hold.
14. Changes to this policy
If we change anything material, we'll let you know in-app and bump the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We won't quietly expand what we collect.
15. Contact
Questions, complaints, or data requests: hello@petitenotes.xyz. We answer within a few days.
